The Carp
The Hearts (carp) are a mix of three different strains, two of which we all familiar with, Leney, and the Sutton. Now the unknown strain or bloodline where basically a fish of which I could only describe as a wildey.
These fish where super long lean fish, hard fighting and had massive fins, 99.9% were common carp, these came from a small farm pond, the farmer had told us the carp had been in there as long as he can remember, so at least 25 years. Over two years of fishing this pond four small Mirror Carp where caught, out of at least 2,000 common carp all about five to six inch long.
These four fish where purchased, being bred from commons, these little Carp were very scaley. Later on these carp where mixed with the Leney Carp, which later gave me my first batch of brood stock.
These fish where stunning looking fish with that old school look to them, but I just felt like they where missing something, I needed some size and shoulders in the fish, so thats why the Sutton fish came into the mix.
These fish generally all did good weights and still looked English, without any mutant shoulders or massive stomach's.
So my already mixed strain was then mixed with the Suttons to give us the Heart's Carp.
